GISBORNE 35'S Vs Wodonga @ Wondonga

July 18

Gisborne 10:8  68 Defeated Echuca 4:4  28

Gisborne 10 : 6  66  Defeated Murray Masters 6 : 11  47

The Doggies touring party left Gisborne at about 10:30 am on a cold and blustery Saturday morning however were kept warm by the continuous banter on the four hour trip up the Hume to Albury/Wodonga. All players were excited about the night away but there was a need to get the business (Football Game) sorted first before any night spots could be entered.

So with all of that in mind the Gisborne boys won the toss, Captain Bussling Benny Yates kicked down and the Gisborne boys started the first term with a flurry, Big Gav Penny gave Bretta, Rosco and Snake first use of the ball and they handed them to Danny on a plate (Just like any of the thousand scotch and cokes he drank on the trip). Danny managed to snag four in the first quarter and the Doggies went into the break with a handy four or five goal break, and the start of the second quarter was going the same way until the Murray team found their feet and ran the ball well to offer their forwards some supply. With only one on the bench in the first quarter and a half the Doggies were found a little weary until Bernie and Puss turned up, Giving Kempy and Nico a chance to have a well earned rest on the bench????

The next quarter and a half saw the Murray boys well and truly take over kicking unanswered goal after unanswered goal as the Doggies made some simple skill errors and seemed to over use the ball instead of getting it down quickly to Ronnie and Danny as they had done in the first quarter, the score would have been a whole lot different if it wasn't for some fantastic efforts down back by the ever reliable Karlos. Coach Kemp gave some stern words at his 3 quarter time address with the Doggies seemingly only 5 points up (Albeit that the score board had docked a goal from the Gisborne Boys somehow) and with this the Doggies machine started up once again, Bretta and Rosco came back into the fold and Danny and Ronnie managed to snag a few more in the last quarter to eventually hold off the Murray Masters boys by 19 points.

Better players were Karl, Sticks, Danny, Ronnie.

Goal scorers

Danny 5 (53 for the year so far), Ronnie 3, Snake 1, Bretta 1

The touring party would like to take this opportunity to thank Karlos for driving up and arranging the bus and the rooms, Kempy for arranging all the refreshments and food whilst the boys were travelling in the bus and not to mention the efforts of the Albury Tigers who offered the use of their ground and to the committee and players of the Murray Crays who played in great spirit and put on a spread afterwards that was just what the doctor ordered (especially if you were to be out drinking for the next 10 hours).

Looking forward to recounting the stories down the club on Wednesday night???????????????????

GISBORNE 47S vs. NTH FRANKSTON

We made the long trek to nth Frankston with the bare 18 players ,with question marks over a few players carrying injuries, Kenny hamstring Grech and motor with a Dodgey calf.

Well we started the first qrt slow with Nth Frankston kicking the first 2 goals in the first 5 minutes with goals bouncing through the goals from long shots and some kind bounces helping them score. lt was a battle with both team defences working over time, and motor blew his calf in the middle of the first which forced him to a forward pocket, Gisborne scoring 1goal and 2 behinds for the 1st qrt with Geppy kicking the only major.

In the 2nd qrt the Gisborne midfield then kicked into gear with Donny in the ruck and onballers ,Simo,Geppy and Mcgee all winning the centre bounces and driving the ball into the forward line giving the forwards first opportunity to score with 3 goals being scored with Grech,Brun,Watkins scoring goals. The defence was holding strong with Prater, Lewis, Ball, Austin Pearce and Callaway all having a go keeping the Nth Frankston forwards to 1 goal 1 behind for the qtr, Donny went down with a split lip from a head butt from the smallest man on the ground, no not Steve Mcgee a opposition player that was shorter than Mcgee, but we taped Donnys mouth nearly shut and he played on with a major ruck roll.

The game became a bit willing after half time with nth Frankston boys coming out hard kicking with the breeze and scoring 3 goals 2 behinds to Gisbornes 2 behinds. It was starting to turn the game into a bit of a rough old game and not in the true 47s spirit it was like we were playing for sheep stations. The Gisborne boys fought out the last qrt but you could see with no bench it was taking its toll on our players and things were getting out of control with some spot fires breaking out and the umpire not taking control . Frankston nth kicking 2 goals 2 to Gisborne 1 behind for the last qrt. All players contributed in a hard fought game but they were just a little too good on the day.

Final Scores Gisborne 4-8=32 def by Nth Frankston 8-5=53

GOOD TEAM EFFORT

Gisborne  35's v Echuca @ Echuca

The Gisborne boys made the journey up the highway to meet Echuca on an unusually chilly Echuca Sunday afternoon. Whilst the trip up was pretty standard it quite obvious on arrival at the United ground that several of the doggies players who went up the night before with their families had over indulged on the friendly syrup (Big Gav Penny never to be left with Danny and Billsy again without the appropriate supervision).

So onto the game and Gisborne took the game by the goolies early with coach Kemp putting on a “Mark Lecras” style display in kicking the first two goals and the Doggies went into quarter time with a steady 32 point lead. Bretty and Rosco were doing as they pleased in the centre whilst Darren “Snake” Taylor also assisted well in the guts with some strong marking also around the ground. The forwards were ably lead by big Ronnie Klaaysen who took over the senior forward role while Billsy chucked a couple of times and Danny got pie all over his face after dropping a sitter pass from coach Kemp, probably the grog had some effect on their display????

After going into half time with a handy 50 point lead the Gisborne team proceeded to rest on their laurels as Echuca woke from their slumber and started to piece together some handy play after posting their first 6 pointer early in the 3rd quarter. Despite being outscored in the 2nd half the Doggies ran out 40 point winners keeping their unbeaten record alive.  Gisborne’s best players were Josh Murray and Bretty Taylor whilst Matty Todd received the “Mug of the week” for growling like a lion, yes I said Growling like a lion at his opponent who seemed quite nonplussed about the whole affair.

Goal scorers    Ronnie 3, Kempy 2, Darren Taylor 2, Sticks 1, Beardy 1, Danny 1

Now the Doggies get ready for the weekend away to Albury/Wodonga to play the Murray Masters, the bus is ready and the Hotel is booked so all players please get your cash $150 paid to either Kempy or Karl as soon as possible.

GISBORNE 45’S vs Sthn Saints @ Sthn Saints

Gisborne 5-11= 41 def Southern Saints 6-4=40

Well Gisborne 47s made the long trip to Highett with the bare 18 players 1 of those being an opposition player. We were very under maned but in true Gisborne spirit the boys put a great fight with the players we had available.

It started in the first qrt with the new look midfield with Shrek Turner, Steve McGee, Tony Gepp and Ryan Erwin all having a red hot go with the Sthn Saints having a strong breeze in the first term and taking advantage with the breeze.  The back line held strong all day with Karl, Perks, Lewis, Austin and the kicking off the ground machine Pommy. The game was a tough slog but in the 2nd qrt Andrews went down with an ankle injury which left us with 17 players. But the Gisborne boys dug deep and fought on with 17 players, then new player Barts, Rhinos brother in-law went off with

a knee injury which left us with 16 players at half time. The coach then asked his players to dig deep within each other and they did, all over the ground we had winners with McGee ,Irwin, Gepp and Shrek leading the way in the midfield, we had Reinwald, Bundy, Grech, Pearce all lifting in the forward line to present, we had Brun and Callaway running hard on the wings, the backline was holding out the opposition with Karl, Perks Lewis, Austin, Pommy doing a sensational job.

It came down to the last qrt with the 16 man Gisborne side over running the 18 man Sthn Saints, we peppered  the goals in the last qrt with every player having a red hot go and then Pommy putting through a pearler with a kick off the ground and going through all players’ legs and winning the game by a 1 point with 20 seconds to go, AS BRUCE WOULD SAY IT WAS A DELICIOUS VICTORY. This was one of the best Gisborne victory l have been associated with and it was a true team effort and victory.

GISBORNE 35'S - v Gippsland @ Gisborne

Sunday 4th July 2010

The game started in the usual Doggies fashion with Big Gav Penny giving the "Engine Room" first use and this enabled the Dogs to get off to a flying start, they were able to kick the first few before their Gippsland counterparts were able to wonder what had happened. Danny was once again strong up forward and was ably assisted by Linden Urqhart who offered another focal point in an already pretty damn potent forward setup.  The Dogs played well in the first half and went into the break with a five goal lead, albeit that the Gippsland outfit were starting to gather momentum after some promising passages towards the end of the 2nd quarter. Brett Taylor (The fairest player in the competition) took umbrage to some ordinary treatment from a Gippsland player and was subsequently sent from the ground, albeit that the instigator was left out there.  This seemed to cause the Dogs to lose some bite and the Gippsland Tigers took over scoring the next few majors.

Gisborne went into the last term with a two goal lead and were eventually able to hold off a fast finishing Tigers in the end with the final score Gisborne 11: 18 84 to Gippsland 7: 5 47, with better players for the dogs being Craig Beard, Bernie Purcell and Josh Murray down back with a special mention to 1st gamer Darryl Andrews who was looking like a handy type until he went down like a shot Giselle with the dreaded "Old man’s injury", the blown calf.

The Dogs now get set for the Murray River double with Echuca next followed by the "Blokes weekend" up to Albury/Wodonga on the 31st of July.

GISBORNE 47's - v  Gippsland @ Gisborne

Sunday 4th July 2010

Hi all,

Well the 47s bubble burst on Sunday vs Gippsland as the final result was a draw. Thanks to a poor coaching performance by myself with only having 17 players on. The ground for the first 10 minutes of the game which gave Gippsland the first 3 goals of the quarter, It was a hard fought contest for the whole game with Gippsland playing good contested football, gisborne where flat  on the day and couldn’t get any real momentum throughout the game, ronnie Klaayson dominated up forward with 6 goals and just crashed the packs with strong marking, Shrek chipped in with the last 2 goals get us out of jail and getting the draw, we were a bit short with our playing stocks this game but no excuses. Still a good team effort for a draw after trailing all day and being 3 goals down with 5 minutes to play.

Final Scores Gisborne 8-5=53  Drew Gippsland 8-5=53

GISBORNE 35's - v  Werribee @ Werribee

Sunday June 20

Gisborne 24:16 160 Defeated Werribee 5:3 33

The Bulldogs got off to a sluggish start this week against what looked to be a pretty good Werribee outfit early days, with the Bulldogs not having everything their own way in the first quarter. A first quarter indiscretion saw an undisciplined Nico and his Werribee counterpart sent from the field, alobeit that the umpires had just reinforced the "Spirit of the Game' laws.

Well the Bulldogs took control in the second quarter after a solid Chris "Angry"Lee bump to their best player resulting in him leaving the ground with a bung shoulder which allowed the midfield to steam forward and give big Klaaysen maximum supply up forward. The Klaaysen show never stopped from there as he went on a rampage against the Werribee attack and kicked

13 goals whilst taking some classic pack marks in the process.

Gisborne were well served all day by Bretta, Rosco and  Sticks, whilst Karl and Anthony Slidders continuously repelled attacks into the Werribee forward line and turned them into attacking moves for the Bulldogs by repeatedly finding either Danny or Rhino up forward. Overall another solid display by the Bulldogs and a good preparation for the upcoming Gippsland game which is sure to be one of the major tests for the strong Bulldogs outfit.

GISBORNE 47's - v  Werribee @ Werribee

Sunday June 20

Hi all,

Gisborne 47s ventured down to Werribee to play at Chirnside Park with the ground in perfect condition except for the centre area, we flew in little Stevie Mcgee from Singapore and had a special appearance by the 35s supercoach Kempy, also Geppy returned from his tour of duty in Sydney.

Back to the game which started from the middle with candles Thompson getting the ball to the midfielders in Simpson, Mcgee and Hoyne and sending the ball forward to Reinwald and Shrek Turner, Gisborne kicking 2goals 3pts to Werribee 3pts,Gisborne backs holding strong with Prater, Kemp, Lewis and Diesel not giving the Werribee forwards anything.

The 2nd qrt seen the boys running hard with Irwin and Grech on the wings giving plenty of drive on the big ground and also the midfield driving the ball forward to the key forwards Reinwald and Turner kicking 5 goals straight to Werribes 2goals Geppy was cleaning up everything  that hit the ground with Pearce and Pommy chipping also Gisborne where in control at half time. The pressure was back on us to keep running in the 3rd qrt, the backline was still being tight with Prater, Kemp, Nifty, Diesel Lewis and Walters holding the Werribee forwards to 2goals for the qrt,  Coleman was creating

with the midfield brigade dominating again around the ground with Gisborne winning the qrt with 4goals.

The last qrt was the Norm with fatigue starting to set in for both sides but Pommy started to do some party tricks and show off some of his new found skill, Kempy was chasing kicks up the ground and was told on numerous occasions to hold his position on the half back flank by the 47s coach, but to no prevail, Gisborne won the last qrt kicking 2 goals to Werribes 1goal.

Another great team effort, the 47s are now on top of the Vic Metro 47s ladder with a couple of upsets during the round.

Final Scores Gisborne  13-5 =83 def Werribee 4-5=29

GREAT TEAM EFFORT

 GISBORNE 35'S - v Geelong @ Geelong

Sunday May 30th 2010

Gisborne 19:16 130 / Geelong 2:5  17

The Bulldogs hopped on the bus and headed down the highway to Geelong and whilst Kenny Grech didn't come up trumps with the usual C.S Cowboy shooters a few of the younger Dogs joined in with the older boys in finishing a few pregame refreshments on the journey over.

After watching the 47's win easily the young Bulldogs continued their winning form against what could only be described as a tired Geelong outfit, they had several 47's back up for another game and also we were to find out that the better Geelong side was sent over to Moorabool in an attempt to salvage some pride.  Anyway enough about Geelong, the Bulldogs were once again served well by Gav, Bretta, Rosco and the "Snake" in the engine room giving the forwards first shot at the ball time and time again.

The Bulldogs managed 4 goals in the first quarter albeit that they were kicking into what could only be described as a "Force 10" gale and the backs were mean in not allowing the Geelong forwards to post any score.

They were never troubled after that and continued to win the ball and offer the forward line maximum use, Danny, Flash and Ryan O'Meara combined well and were helped by Scotty and Beardalenko who also posted gaols in the onslaught.

Better players were Bretta, Sticks and the forward line, the mug was won by Gav Penny who stole Nico's thunder at the toss by introducing himself as the captain. A solid performance on the bus and later at the Vic was displayed by all parties, however the Bulldogs were able to leave some in the tank to party on at the "Mid Season Function" next Saturday night.

Goal scorers Danny 4, Flash 4, Ryan O 3, Scotty 3, Beardalenko 3, Toddy 1, Coach Kemp 1.

 GISBORNE 47's - v Geelong @ Geelong

Sunday May 30th 2010

Hi all,

Gisborne travelled to Geelong by bus for a double header with the 47s and 35s putting on extra pressure on the 47s to perform in front of the 35s juggernaught. The conditions were wet and windy with the 47s kicking of first with the pressure on with all the young 35s looking on. As usual the on ballers took control from the first bounce with Donny in the ruck getting the ball down to Simmo ,Hoyne and the fumbling machine Kenny, with a four goal breeze the forwards where able to kick 4 goals straight with Pearcey,Andrews,Brunn and Hoyne kicking goals to Geelong’s 2 pts. The backline was tight as ever led by Perkins Prater, Lewis and Co. The 2nd qtr seen Geelong kicking with breeze they kicked 3 goals with the breeze but the Gisborne boys dug deep against the wind kicking 3 goals also with Bundy, Simmo and Wilson all kicking goals, Glenister was playing his first game was having an impact in defence and in the ruck helping out Thompson. The 3rd term tightened up for both sides with Gisborne only kicking 1 goal and 3pts to Geelong’s 1goal,but the highlight  of the quarter was Deisel running 20 metres the wrong way to the Geelong forward line until screamed at he was running the wrong way luckily he didn’t score for Geelong. The last qtr arrived with Geelong still having a four goal breeze, but the Gisborne defence held tight with emmins, green, glenister,Perkins, prater, lewis all playing tight and only allowing them to score 2pts,Koller and Grech were running hard to give the Gisborne defence a hand, injuries to grant and guest left us with only one on the bench, but all players dug deep to defend our lead with andrews kicking the final goal to put the game out of

Geelong’s reach.

GISBORNE 35'S - v   Ballarat @ Ballarat

Sunday May 16th 2010

Gisborne 20 : 11  131 defeated Ballarat 5 : 2  32

The Bulldogs made the hike up the highway to Ballarat yesterday on a day where conditions were perfect and the track was fast and hard. Gisborne started well with repeated forward 50 entries and big Danny Klaaysen up forward starting like a Bondi tram kicking the Bulldogs first 4 goals before Ballarat even realised the game had started.  Once again Gav Penny gave the engine room 1st use at the centre taps allowing both Bretta and Rosco to get plenty of the ball in the middle and the "Prez" Karlos along with  the "Hoff" Burnie Purcell thwarted several attempts by the Ballarat outfit to score.  As the game moved on it was becoming completely obvious that it was going to big Klaaysen V Ballarat and Danny managed to outscore the opposition by 6 goals, posting 11 : 6 in a fantastic effort up forward.

Better players for the day were the Hoff, Karlos, Ryan O'meara showed that he is going to be a healthy asset to the team and of course Coleman, woops I mean Klaaysen did well considering he only played three quarters.

GISBORNE 47's - v Brunswick @ Brunswick

Sunday May 16th 2010

Hi all,

Gisborne 47s travelled to Brunswick the old stomping ground of Ken Grech, which added pressure to Ken to perform.

Gisborne flew out of the blocks to kick 7 goals 1pt to Brunswick’s 2 goals, in the 1st quarter the ruck was in control with Donny dominating and the midfield dominate with Hoyne, Simpson and Harveylittle giving our forwards first use of the ball (Shrek) Paul Turner kicking 3goals in the 1st and Reinwald and Guesty running rampant in the forward line.

The 2nd quarter saw Brunswick lift the momentum and played a lot more man on man football which evened up the game. It was a battle of the defences with Perkins, Lewis, Koller, Walters, Crosbie and Williams holding out the Brunswick forward attacks. Gisborne scoring 2 goals 3pts to Brunswick’s 2pts.  Grech and Irwin where running hard on the wings on the big ground. As we say every game the 3rd qrt is the premiership qrt and Gisborne out scored Brunswick 3 goals 1pt to Brunswick 1 goal.

Andrews was moved to the Brunswick team on Grant, then Grant started to dominate on the half forward line creating many forward thrust and creating Goals, his lighting speed was too much for Andrews, little Guesty was still on fire in the forward line running wild, Coleman was giving plenty of run through the defensive lines, Gisborne won the 3rd quarter as asked by the coaching team.

The last qrt was just a battle by both teams with fatigue setting in and a lot of tired old blokes looking to hear that final siren go.

Gisborne kicked 2 goals 2pts to Brunswick 3 goals 2pts, the game was played in good 47s spirit by both teams.

 FINAL SCORES Gisborne 14- 7=91 Brunswick 7-6=48

GISBORNE 35'S - v Melton @ Gisborne

Sunday May 2nd 2010

Gisborne 14:12 to Melton 8:5.

The unbeaten Bulldogs hosted Melton in what was a bit of a mystery game, Given that the two sides had not played in two years and recent reports were that the Melton side were struggling to get numbers.  The Bulldogs under instructions from Coach Kemp were fast out of the blocks and manged to kick the first 8 goals and had the Melton side reeling. Big Gav Penny and the following division gave our forwards some great supply in the first two quarters and new member Paul Lawrence across half back along with Anthony Slidders were able to consistantly repel the Melton advances. The third quarter saw the Bulldogs take the foot off the pedal which gave Melton the ability to run the ball and kick a few unanswered goals, however after a wake-up call at three quarter time from Coach Kemp the Bulldogs players were able to kick away and see off any Melton challenge. The Bulldogs were well served by the following division of which Darren "Snake" Taylor showed he will be a more than handy aquisition, Danny Klaasen up forwards providing a focal point (Not to mention his willingness to bring others into the game) along with some solid work from Paul Lawrence in the backline.

Special Thanx to Tony Andrews and the ladies in the kitchen who once again served up a stellar afternoon tea for all players and supporters.

GISBORNE 35'S - v Colac @ Beeac

Sunday April 18th 2010

The Gisborne juggernaut rolled on in to Colac and once again Gisborne posted a solid score to win 25:6 to Colac 2:4. The Bulldogs were on top from the start posting a sound 9:3 to 1 point in a solid first quarter. The engine room again put in a solid performance with big Gav Penny leading the ruck all day and the following division of Brett Taylor, Darren taylor and Ross Johns again outclassing their opposition. Up forward Danny Klaaysen, Scotty Trezise and Linden Urqhart were all combining well and offering options all over the place with Linden bagging 9 goals in a solid display.

Albeit that the score doesn't show it our backline repelled numerous attempts by the Colac outfit and were workman like in their efforts, Wayne Bils was his usual dogged self back in the pocket and Anthony Slidders also continued his great form off the HBF continuosly sending the ball forward for the Bulldogs.  The whole day was finished off with a couple of frothy ales and the obligatory cakes and sausage rolls from the Colac locals.

GISBORNE 47's - v Gipssland @ Gippsland

S
undy April 18 2010

First official game by gisborne 47s travelled to a little country town called tyers 220kms away,11kms north of morwell & traralgon, 18 players travelled which was pleasing and trainer mick partridge, and 6 faithful supporters.

The game was played in perfect conditions and ground was in perfect condition and very big for all the older boys.

Gisborne was in control from the first bounce with Donny Thompson controlling the ruck contest and onballers mcgee, hoyne, grech taking advantage of the first use of ball driving it forward to reinwald at centre half forward kicking 3 first quarter goals, and the backline holding out the gippsland opposition to just 1 pt for the quarter lead by perkins, lewis, prater. The second term became much more even with both teams kicking 3 goals in this term, but had good run on both wings from kollier & lrwin.

Perkins was then moved on to the running swallow who had a big 10 minutes but was then nulifyed by perkins.

The  3rd quarter was going to be the premiership quarter with both teams feeling the heat starting to fatigue both teams, running the game out was going to be the key to winning the game and the gisborne boys responded with gisborne kicking 3 goals to gippsland 1,shrek paul turner respondid with 3 goals in the term with the backline holding strong with ballarat boys emmins & walters and other backline players holding the opposition out. Disaster struck with shrek going down with a hamstring and leaving the field to sit next to new player guest who done his hamstring in the 2nd term.

Well it came down to who wanted to win the game the most and running the game out was the key and the whole gisborne team responded all over the ground kicking 6 goals 6 pts to gippsland 2 goals 4 pts, Thompson had to be moved to full forward due to injuring his knee but tuffed it out, reinwald moved to the ruck and andrews moved to centre half forward ,which proved to be good moves by the coach.Austen kicked in with 2 last quarter goals. Mug of week went to Granty for his great effort in the last quarter running into a open goal faking a hand ball of and tripping over in the goal square and spilling the ball through the goals for a behind, it was a great team effort by the 47s boys in there first game and played in true gisborne spirit.
